Evelynisms

I have been neglecting the old blog here, my apologies. We have been busy and time just slips by. Evelyn comes up with so many things that our neighbor Jacquie has coined the phrase, "another Evelyn moment." Kind of like senior moments, but funnier and less concerning. Here are just a few.... more blog posts to come too!

"Are you pretending to be married?" Andy was giving me a hug in the kitchen.

"Don't tease my Father, Mother."

" Dad, I beg to differ."

Sadly, we had a funeral at the church this past week. He was a long time member, leader and friend who had attended college with Andy's Dad and left us too soon. Evelyn and I were there and she saw Russ, her Papa who was wearing a very formal black suit with shiny black shoes. He isn't typically dressed quite so formal so Evelyn was surprised to see his new look. She ran up to him, stopped and looked at what he was wearing and said, "Papa! Are you one of the Presidents?" Papa was so tickled by this question that he incorporated it into his sermon yesterday.

Evelyn got wings for her costume and she couldn't wait to get out and fly up to the tree. She was convinced she would be able to fly. She wore her wings into the store and at the beginning of each isle asked me, "can I fly now Mom?" and she would flutter ahead of me.

I saw a little tiny shrimp and you know what he was called? An alien mailman! I have no explanation for this one, I don't know what she was talking about..... it was a true Evelyn moment.

At Sunday school of all places, I was the teacher and we were learning that God gave us families who love us and we learned that Mary and Joseph were Baby Jesus' mommy and Daddy and then we learned a new song to the tune of Mary Had a Little Lamb, God gives us families(x3), God gives us families, Thank you God for families. and then you can change the words and sing thank you God for Mommies, Daddies, sisters, brothers... We were singing through the list and I asked what else can we sing about? Evelyn, yes my daughter, suggests, "How about we sing Thank you God for bottles of wine?" I tried to ignore her and ask another little one in the group what she wanted to sing about (hoping for a request about sisters) and so as not to be ignored, Evelyn repeated herself. Thank You God for bottles of wine. I couldn't go on, I had to stop in the middle of circle time and laugh my head off, oh dear! Thank you Evelyn! And NO Papa won't be incorporating this one into his sermons anytime soon. :)

Not in a sermon probably, but it will pop up in our conversations! This morning on a walk, we noticed a new store front--it had something to do with wine. Papa never hesitated--"There's a new store for Evelyn..." She makes every day an adventure.

Got one for ya: You know when Evelyn has the candy-sweet moments, where you get the very genuine and affectionate sounding "I love you, mom," or "You'll always be my daddy," right? She had that tone of voice today when she told me "You're funny...just the way you are."
