Evelynisms

This photo was taken over at Papa Russ's and Granny's. After Papa took these pictures, we were at home telling our neighbor Jacquie about the photo session and while I was talking about how Papa had her sit among the daffodils Evelyn interrupted and commented,
"It was awfully humiliating."

"My medicine taste-ed pretty good!"
-Daddy: oh yeah? What'd it taste like?
"Gwape and fish!"

Baby names:
Chuck Ariel
Ariel Max
Ariel Cookie

"Mom your eyes don't work very good but mine do, I can see like a T-Rex."

"Come here my darling" (to her baby doll)

Easter Preview

Saturday was beautiful and we had a full day. Andy's cousin and family came over and played. We met at the park where it was sunny and warm and we played softball really-slow-pitch with Evelyn's pink foam covered bat and ball. When Evelyn and Kelvin had had enough we went back to our place and ate lunch and dyed eggs. Evelyn liked mixing the pink and blue to make purple eggs. Her favorite egg had a happy face drawn on before with crayon. Once the eggs had dried we took a few of them outside and practiced the great egg hunt. Neither of them remembered the game from last year so we called it 'hide and go seek egg hunt' and then they were interested. Scout showed us he was a master "egger" by finding all the eggs hidden close to the ground, bringing them to me and gently spitting them back out un-cracked. Once Evelyn and Kelvin had found the eggs several times, and dropped the eggs several times, we stopped for a snack of hard boiled eggs. It was so nice to be outside in the sun and we're especially excited for Brady and Courtney to buy a house in Milwaukie so we can have many more Saturdays together!

I'm so frustrated with my camera lately, it has a hard time focusing. So these are blurry ideas of what our day was like...

Baby Boy, Baby Girl, or Baby Dragon?

There's some big changes coming to our family and I haven't posted a single word about it yet. Are you ready for this big announcement? We will be adding to our family in September with baby number 2!
As parents to a 4 year old with a rich imagination, we quickly realized it's not about us becoming parents again but about Evelyn becoming a big sister. And that we're on a journey. A journey to sisterhood. What will Evelyn be a sister of?
Well according to Evelyn in the past several weeks it's not a baby brother or a baby sister. Rather, it's a baby dragon, which was an improvement. At least it's a baby-something. Previously, it had been avoidance turned to tears when the subject came up. She even came up with some names for the baby dragon. She liked the name Chuck and she thought Ariel was a beautiful name. So she put them together. CHUCK ARIEL. Can you just see it? Annoucing the birth of our new baby, Chuck Ariel Isom.

For her birthday, we gave Evelyn a new dolly who also came with a bed, dolly clothes, and a pink stroller. She has been taking very good care of baby "Isabelle" and is showing good signs of nurturing and mothering capabilities. I have a feeling I will be in stiff competition for Mama duty when all things are said and done and the new little one is here. As for me, I'm pretty sure it's not a baby dragon...

Magic

There's Mommy magic:
I was doing dishes and cleaning up from dinner. Magic. I actually made dinner and had it on the table (which was cleared off) at 6:15. Magic. We had no TV or radio on but nice soft music. Magic. Nice warm, crackling fire in the woodstove. Magic.

Then there's my 4 year old:
Evelyn came in to the kitchen where I was doing the dishes and said, "Come to tea my dear. It's ready in my castle.(and then whispered) There's magic in der."...
and look, the magic was real....

We played fairy princess tea party past bed time. We couldn't help ourselfs.

Ouch!

We made it over a year without going to the ER. Evelyn took a bad spill while at play group and met head-on with the table. We're not sure what happened, either another nasty shadow tripped her or she had her own personal earthquake. They decided not to do stitches but used the equivalent of ER super glue to hold her together complete with purple dye and sparkles. I was at work when I got the call you never want to get at work. "We're at the ER, everything's OK BUT..." Evelyn was with Julie for the day but they were able to get to Andy and headed for the hospital. Evelyn was a brave girl and even got a surprise visit from Jasper the Therapy dog while waiting for the doctor. It already looks better this morning, it's amazing how fast little bodies heal!

Bedtime

Bedtime is usually the last productive thing I do in the day. If I haven't picked up or done some dishes before I put Evelyn to bed, chances are they will still be there in the morning because after sitting in a dark room with Evelyn singing a few songs and cuddling...I'm done. When I'm already 'done' before bedtime it takes every muscle I have to tuck that girl in and get out of her room.
Last night was one of those nights. I didn't want to stay and snuggle or sing her a song or tell her a story. I wanted to tuck her in and get out but there I sat.
Evelyn was on my lap sitting quietly when she asked, "Mommy? wIll you tell me a story?" I let out a long sigh because I didn't feel I had any creative ideas left in my head. After hearing this sigh Evelyn added, "because you love me?"
And so because I do love her, and she totally made me laugh out loud she got her story and a quality tuck in last night.

Evelyn's 4th Birthday Party

Evelyn is now 4 years old. She had her Birthday party today and we couldn't have asked for a better day, we had beautiful Spring-like weather. Evelyn had a Garden party where we even got our hands in some dirt! She and her friends decorated flower pots and then each planted their very own flower. To stay true to theme, the cake was even made of dirt; edible delicious Oreo dirt, and served with a spade. We had a really fun time and now Evelyn has a new responsibility of tending to her flower pot. Happy Birthday sweet girl!
