Workin' 9-5...

We had our first day with kids in classes today. This is a picture from several years ago but it gives you some idea of what the room looks like. Our largest class has 9 kids right now, other groups have 4 or 5. I just found out today that (just like magic) I get to be the head teacher until the lady who was supposed to teach is able to move again (no I am not a teacher, I am a Speech Therapist but the lines do blur an awful lot, especially when it's convenient). Last week when cleaning and preparing for class she stepped in a puddle of water from the mop and her feet flew staight out and she landed on her back, which is where she remains... for we don't know how long. And since I am the only familiar face returning this year I needed to be there to greet parents and returning kiddos. It was adorable, preschoolers coming to their big school but I am now in charge of two preschool classes and then my Speech caseload and speech groups as well. I did technically volunteer for this to help out but it's a little scary now that I am sitting here thinking about it. This means 4 day work weeks instead of 3, plus there's the undetermined amount of time the original teacher will be gone. Yikes! So here I go, jumping into the deep end. Wish me luck.

That's me in the background, pregnant (why am I standing on slippery surface barefoot?). Karen, our Physical Therapist is holding onto one of the kids for dear life. We are "ice skating" on shaving creme which is a blast and also a huge mess and for many of the kids, the best day of their life - it's really fun.
