Happy Reflections

I'm going to rip a "page" out of one of my new favorite blogs. I've been following the blog Enjoying the small Things and every once in a while she posts about small things that bring her joy. I love this idea and am going to give it a try. Small things that bring me joy:

Watching Evelyn read Dr. Seuss with her Daddy
Daddy will start the sentence, and pause, and Evelyn will finish the sentence. Her memory is amazing! Hearing her pronounce those strange Dr.Seuss-y words is so endearing, especially when she says her "s" more like a "th", which she does most of the time. She is usually ready for bed, hair combed and braided, pj's on, sitting in her pink room on her pink bed reading the same story (or stories) night after night with her Daddy.

Can I hear it?
Evelyn has just started putting her ear up to my belly to listen to the baby. She puts her little soft hand flat on my belly and then with a very shy smile leans in and puts her ear to my belly. She is going to smother this baby with love, after she gets over the shock of it :)

Breakfast in bed
Evelyn has been getting up and making me breakfast lately. She gets the cereal out of the cupboard and starts towards her room, where she has a toy kitchen set up complete with miniature glass dishes. I have had to nip this in the bud, because we happen to live in Milwaukie, which was established over the biggest ant hill on the face of this earth! So if any food is left under the bed, the ants will be marching 20x20 to Evelyn's room (hurrah, hurrah!). So she takes the box back to the kitchen table, with a sigh, and scoops dry cereal out with measuring cup (so she doesn't pour out the entire bag of cereal at once) and then pours milk from another measuring cup, which I have filled with only 1/4 cup of milk at a time. She insists on doing it herself, so it's the illusion of Independence that is important. Then with a grin on her face that is priceless, she presents me with a bowl of cereal, handmade by Evelyn herself, and I savor every bite.

Butterfly's in my stomach
I have had suspicions of feeling the baby move for a couple weeks, but this week I know for sure that what I am feeling is not digestion or gas. It's actually a little miracle fluttering inside me. I remember the exact day I felt Evelyn move. I was exactly 20 weeks, to the day. She felt like a little goldfish trying to get out of the baggy it was put in at the pet store. This time, it's much softer. I'm just now 16 weeks so the baby is a lot smaller. It feels this time more like water swirling past you when you are swimming and pull your arm down fast. A small rush, a hint of what is happening. A very small but active soul.

love these! I think I'll try it out too - the little things in life part. So exciting to feel the baby- doesn't it make it much more real? Can't wait to see you! Hopefully soon!

This week Evelynie stuffed her "crib doll" under her shirt, and told me, "Gramma, I have a pregnant belly. If you're very careful, you can hear my baby".
So I bent way down, and she helped me press my head against her tummy, and then asked, " Did ya hear it?" Of course I did! It said, I love Evelynie!
