I have to make an Oregonians confession. Beautiful, sunny, perfect Spring days totally stress me out!
There is too much pressure to get out and soak in the day and enjoy EVERY second of it, to have the PERFECT day. All I wanted to do Sunday was take a nap. "But how can you WASTE such a perfect day by taking a nap?," was the phrase repeating in my head.
So I didn't take a nap.
Evelyn and I pretended to be busy out in the garden. I let her water the strawberries in her water shoes and she watered the strawberries, her skirt, her shoes, the grass and the cherry tree thoroughly. Then we went to a park. It really was the perfect day to go to the park, and I began to relax a bit. The park was full of teenagers mostly, hanging out around the basketball court and the skate area. I was reminded of what lies ahead for me in teaching Evelyn how to behave as a teenager around teenage boys. Lets just say short shorts will not be in her wardrobe! My hope is that Evelyn will be 2 feet taller than most teenage boys and thus many physical issues will be put at bay until the boys can catch up in height (ahem, like in college).
This park is a climbers dream, and a great challenge for Evelyn whom climbing does not come naturally at all. After watching how the bigger kids manuvered the ropes, she was able to reach her own, much closer to the ground, heights. We went home tired, and satisfied with our time in the sun. Nothing to hide here, we had a great weekend in the sun. Now that it's the week again and in the 50's and raining, I can finally take a nap!
